Naperville has consistently been listed as one of the top five small cities in the United States to live in and has one of the best public school systems in the entire country.

Unlike many of the cities surrounding Chicago, Naperville does not have long past as a major urban center, so most of the residences date from since 1950. Further, there has been an enormous amount of investment in new, upscale residences since 1990. Properties for rent are less common in Naperville, with only about twenty percent of residences being rented at all and many of those are either separate houses of upscale townhouses. Further, of the properties that are rented, most are considerably more expensive than those in other parts of the metropolitan area, with the majority of rents falling in the range of $600 to $1,499 per month.

Although Naperville does have a small number of rental properties that cost less than $600 per month, these are very small and very limited. Naperville's general affluence and thorough integration with the greater metropolitan area's mass transit system means that most of the workers commute in from elsewhere, keeping actual Naperville residences expensive and somewhat exclusive. However, potential renters looking for very high end luxury units, especially those costing more than $1,500 a month have many choices in Naperville and it is also a great place to raise a family within the metropolitan area.
